The little things

I dedicate this post to my friend Tara. She writes a blog that inspires me because she takes the time to not only enjoy the little things but to seek them out. Her appreciation for all things, even something as simple as her favorite pair of boots, is heartfelt, whimsical and makes me want to look more closely at the details of my life and find more enjoyment from those details.

Her most recent post, about receiving a handwritten thank you note in the mail, was stated with such great affection that it, as her posts often do, made me smile.

I have a love/hate relationship with technology, probably like many people. And I do text, I do e-mail. But I also send cards, sometimes for a reason and sometimes for no reason, through regular mail because I like to receive them so I figure other people do too. I always send handwritten thank you cards even though my handwriting is atrocious. And I hide love notes for Lance in his work bag, when he is going to be working a long shift. I know I appreciate my family and friends, and I know I see all the wondrous little things when it comes to them but Tara’s post today reminded me that my life is filled with little things and that I am surrounded by these all the time. For instance, I hit every light green this morning, someone held the door for me when my hands were full, and I bought a pair of jeans two sizes smaller than what I normally wear.

Three things that made my life easier and happier (!smaller jeans!) and I would have missed the simple beauty it if I didn’t have someone like Tara to remind me that having a comfortable pair of shoes or a handwritten thank you note can be a wonderful pleasure. So the next time you are having a bad day, stop and breathe. There has to be something good that you missed. Find it and it’ll change your attitude for the better.

She is waaaaayyyyy girlie than I am, but I love the idea of being that girlie and I admire the passion and thought that she puts into her projects.

When I grow-up, I’m going to be organized so I can do all the fun projects I want to do for real instead of just thinking them in my head.

I’m including this picture because it is one of my all time favorites and embodies yummy, good things.
