Fussypants vs the Potty: Round 2

For some reason, Fussypants has a severe aversion to the potty first thing in the morning. He really, really, really doesn’t want to be anywhere near it. But in an effort to be consistent, I, of course, make him sit on it every morning, which then causes him to transfer his dislike to me.

Saturday morning, Hunky Hubby is at work (because this kinda crap always goes down when he’s not around) and I’ve got Fussypants on the potty, crying “I don’t want to go on the potty” while he is actually going on the potty. So I say that, pointing out the obvious, which nobody likes and is never helpful, but I do it anyway, and he looks at me, takes his dingding out of the potty while sitting and going on the potty and whizzes all over the firetruck rug on the bathroom floor. He barely missed my foot because I had, in some unconscious mommy-tingle all-knowing way, just taken a step back.

The little stinker.

An hour or so later, when he was more awake and back to being my sweet son, he looked at me and said, “I’m ready (heavily emphasised) to use the potty now, and I won’t pee on the floor” and then marched himself in the bathroom and proceeded to go with no further mishaps.

He has a stubborn streak, that one. I think he gets it from his father.
