Divine Intervention…or rather Products That Are Divine

I like to think of myself as a natural beauty but that’s just wishful thinking. The truth is that I can be as ugly as I am beautiful. As a working mom with a firefighter husband who isn’t home every morning to help out, I have less and less time for me, some mornings all my time is dedicated to chasing Fussypants around or bribing him with tictacs just to get him dressed (yeah, some days I am that mom and I am not afraid to admit it).

I have not yet began a beauty regime that includes botox or other cosmetic surgery procedures but that is mainly because it is expensive and I am not ready to commit to that type of upkeep.

Here are some of my favorite products/services, for a natural summer look. I’m not getting anything to review/promote these products, I just use and like them.

1. Brazilian Blow-out: I highly recommend this hair treatment. I’ve done it twice now and it makes my life easier. It’s as simple as that. With the BB, it only takes me 5 minutes to blow-dry my hair rather than 20 or I can let my hair air dry for easy waves sans frizz.

2. Eye lash tint: Jennifer Hyland at Ambe Aesthetics in Newport Beach provides this service. It’s a safe vegetable dye and the process takes 10-15 painless minutes. When done, my eyelashes are very black and I need less mascara. It’s perfect for summer, as you don’t need to wear mascara to the beach or pool.

3. Benefit Lemon-aide: The best eyelid primer I’ve ever used. It’s a miracle product. Lightweight and instantly correcting.

4. Benefit Creaseless Cream Eye Shadow in Birthday Suit: I apply it with my fingertip all over my lid, from lash to eyebrow. It is such a natural color, it’s like not even wearing make-up.

5. Smashbox O-Gloss: One of my obsessions! Makes your lips the perfect natural pink without drying them out. It doesn’t look like you are wearing lipstick or gloss, so it’s great for the gym or beach. The product reacts with your “personal skin chemistry” to give you the perfect lip color but I could care less about how it works, I just love that it does. I use it daily.

6. Neutrogena Body Oil: I mix a tiny drop in with my lotion for a soft sheen that helps enhance my tan (or take the edge of my non-tan). It’s lightweight so it doesn’t feel thick on the skin in the summer heat.

7. Mary Kay Satin Hands Pampering Set: My mom introduced me to this three-step product and it really works. When you have kids, your hands work overtime. They clean, comfort, cook, build, you name it…a mother’s hands are overworked. And hands can “age” you. Sad but true. This product really softens your skin.

8. Senna Cosmetics Brow Fix: I don’t always have time for the whole eyebrow pencil fill-in process. I’ve used Senna’s brow fix in “blonde” for years, it plumps your brows and adds a little color. However, Senna recently changed their formula to Brow Fix X and I don’t know what the difference is – but you can still get “blonde” for 1/2 price in the Last Chance section of their website.

9. Pureology Glossing Mist: There are hundreds of shine products on the market but I think this one rocks. It is lightweight, smells good and provides awesome shine.

I am in a perpetual search for a good eye cream that is both hydrating and firming, so if anyone has a recomendation, let me know!

Happy summer!

  1. I have some favorite go-to products too, but as far as eye cream, I'm with you, I still haven't one that I love yet.

I have used and liked Eye Hope by Philosophy but it's $50 a pop, so as my cheapy brand, I use Aveeno Positively Ageless Lifting and Firming Eye Cream.

Speaking of OTC products, I am really loving the Cetaphil line of face soap and moisturizers.

  2. I am using cetaphil face wash (until I can go back to using my Rodan & Fields) and I really like it too. I'll check out the eye cream recomendations, thank you!
